Medication Safety During Travel

Millions of people will be traveling for the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays soon. Now is a good time to verify your medication refills for asthma inhalers, blood pressure pills, and diabetes medication.

1.) Take a picture of your pill bottles on your iPhone so you have a digital copy. This will include the name of the medicine, the milligram dose, the pharmacy number, and the doctor’s name in case you lose your medication or have to go to the emergency department.

2.) Call your pharmacy and verify if you are able to refill any of your medicines prior to leaving town.

3.) Pack your medications in your carry on luggage only. Never pack your medications in checked bags. If you are delayed at the airport or your luggage is lost, you won’t be able to take your medications on time.

Travel safely!
