Common Sources of Back Pain

Back pain is a common complaint by many, which is experienced by everyone at lease once in their lives. Although this can potentially happen, there are several ways to prevent or lessen most back pains.

When one is experiencing back pain, their symptoms may include muscle ache, stabbing pains, pain down the leg, limited flexibility or range of motion of the back and the inability to stand up straight.

Although back pain can begin without an actual cause, some factors that may lead to back pains are muscle or ligament strain, arthritis or osteoporosis.

Some risk factors are excess wait, lack of exercise and improper lifting, as well as those with psychological issues like depression or anxiety.

Most back pain gets better after a few weeks when treating it at home. Usually, over-the-counter pain relievers can help, but you may also need a short period of bed rest. Pain relievers such as Tylenol, Advil or Motrin may be effective. There are also options such as physical therapy and exercising, injections or even surgery. Depending on the severity of your case, a doctor will be able to decide what is best for you.

You can treat back pain with several home remedies. Although it may take weeks for the pain to disappear, you should notice some improvement within the first 72 hours. If not, you should see a doctor immediately. Seek immediate care if your back pain causes bladder or bowel problems, fever or is caused by a fall. You should also contact a doctor if your back pain is intense at night or when laying down, spreads to the legs, causes weakness, causes weight loss or swelling and/or redness on the back. Most back pain subsidizes but if it doesn’t, the best thing to do not to wait it out but to come and see a doctor right away.
